Ape Escape

Sony Playstation

1-player

Analog and Dual Shock Compatible

Well it is time to review another over populated genre game, 3D platformers.  I have seen the best and I have seen the worst and to be honest they all start looking the same after a few years.  With Ape Escape Sony has opted to take a new approach.   Instead of adding some new kind of wacky move or character animation they decided to make a game that controlled like no other.

Ape Escape takes full advantage of Sony's Dual Shock Analog controller.  It uses every single button including the R3 and L3 buttons.  This is what caught my eye in AE.  I feel that this is an amazing breakthrough in the world of 3D platformers.   This game's control is so unique one will find themselves going back through the levels mastering it's skill.

The game also boasts many secrets and items that cannot be accesed the first time through.  You need to obtain certain weapons to reach some of the monkeys in the earlier stages.  This adds major replay value to this amazing game.

Graphics are just sub par, sporting few polygons per character giving it a cartoon stlye appearance.  The graphics kind of reminded me of Mega Man Legends.  It suits the game so it doesnt hurt the overall package.

Sound is decent, the music is great but the effects seem to be lacking in most areas.   I felt that the monkeys screech was utterly annoying myself.  The sound can be somewhat overlooked because the gameplay is where this game shines the most.

Ape Escape is one of the most revolutionary titles on the PS to date.  I love the use of the analog buttons and simply cannot put this game down.  If you are a fan of Crash or any other platform game this is a must buy!  This game recieves Zero's 100% approval of fun.  As for me I am out of here and as always this is ZT sayin see-ya!
