Kaiokenattack Sees The Light
By:Kaiokenattack
. First off, I was very concerned after reading your response to a letter written by Sean Newman after reading March 26's letter section. It seemed that you were DEFENDING Beetle Adventure Racing for all its worth. Why are you doing this when you don't need to? Great reviewers are non-biased and very open-minded. Well, I HAVE played BAR myself. Don't get me wrong, BAR is a great game (even though it has one vehicle) but some of the things that Sean said are very true. I noticed that you didn't ENTIRELY respond to his letter. He talked about how Playstation games are a lot cheaper and have more games for the system. We all know of this fact, but he has every right to be mad at this. You could ask anyone I know and they would tell you that I am a DIE-HARD Nintendo fan. Lately, I've become very, very tired with the antics of Nintendo. Remember the phrase Nintendo kept dishing out, "Quality over Quantity"? Well I waited, and waited, and waited. Although Zelda and a FEW others are exceptions, NEITHER happened. We didn't get quality games, or enough of 'em. Take Nitro for example. Why in God's name did Nintendo even THINK to let THQ make this game for their system??? We just didn't need it! Triple Play 2000 just came out. It wasn't even MADE by EA and the Playstation version is light-years ahead of it in every way. It even has better GRAPHICS, and you don't usually see that when you compare a PS game to an N64 game. What I'm trying to say is, Nintendo CAN NOT AFFORD to have ANY bad games for their system. Don't you agree with me? I know that PS also has its share of crappy games, I can assure you of that, but the thing is, it has way more GOOD games to back it up. This completely makes you overlook the bad qualities of the system when you have so MANY good games out for it. I'll say this now: I don't even OWN a Playstation, but I can tell you this now: there is NO DOUBT in my mind that there are MORE good games out for this system than there is for the N64. And don't give me the release-date-of-the-systems excuse, it's been overused way too many times. Sean seemed a little upset at the praise you give "kiddie" games because there are TOO MANY for the system. If I was to give a percentage, I would say that 70% of the games for the N64 are "kiddie" games. Give or take a percent. I do know that Nintendo wants to have games that are for ALL ages and for everyone to have fun and play, but Gran Tourismo falls under the same category! It IS possible to make a game for everyone that is great fun and not make it have childish humor and graphics. I'm 18, and I am getting a little sick of seeing a bunch of games with characters with giant eyes and baby voices. Even though I agree with your statement that even if a game looks this way, it may still be a great game, I feel that sadly, today's "casual" gaming public only looks at what's on the outside. And there's more of them than there are of us. And since I'm on the topic of racing games, IS THAT ALL DEVELOPERS KNOW HOW TO MAKE THESE DAYS!?!??!!? Racing game after racing game. I'm so sick of racing games!!!! Racing here, racing there. We've gotten more racing games in the past 2 years than in the last 10 years!!! Racing games AREN'T that great, y'know!!! You can only do so much stuff with a racing game, or can you? I guess you can't because they're still making more of 'em. Can't someone open up their eyes and see the big picture?? Can't they realize that racing games are everywhere??? I'm drowning in racing games here, folks! If you recall that "Wild 9" commercial, that guy at the end said, "Hey, how about a new car racing game?" and then he got bonked on the head. That's what I'd like to do to about a million other developers out there, only with a Megaton Hammer. I DON'T CARE what you do, how much fun you make it, how many shortcuts, or deathmatches, or how good the graphics are, or how many tracks or cars are in it, I don't want to see another racing game!!! EVER!!!! And what saddens me even more is that our beloved, praised, and worshiped Star Wars franchise has made, yet another racing game. It's just sickening. Ok, I'm done with ranting about racing games. My next topic is rendered movies. Now that it is said that Resident Evil 2 is to have MPEG movies and the full intro sequence (which is still one of my favs), does this mean that now, developers will finally give Nintendo owners what Playstation owners have been drooling over for the past 5 years?? I don't know about you, but I think a lot of N64 gamers LIKE rendered movies. We've ALWAYS wanted 'em. Just because the N64 "couldn't" do them, because there "wasn't enough space on a cartridge" made us want CGI movies EVEN MORE. So, will we finally get what we want? How is the quality, anyway? If it's better than or as good as the PS movies, I will definitely be impressed. It makes me wonder how all these years PS owners thought they had so many more benefits because of the movies, and all we could do was sulk. Now we can get what we always wanted. Well, at least some of us. I have seen Wheel of Fortune for N64 and seen the Vanna White short, but I never thought something like a 10-min. movie would EVER be possible. There goes the entire cart! Also, will this bring up the price dramatically? I know right now a 32MB cart is $59.99. So would a 64MB cart be $79.99 and up? That would be CRAZY to pay so much for an N64 game. I know I will never pay that much for a game, it just isn't worth it at all. In closing, I think Nintendo needs to really start thinking about a more general audience (and being a kiddie game does not make it instantly for "everyone") and caring only how much money they can stuff in their pockets. Even though the latter will never change, maybe the first thing I mentioned will. We DO have Conker's Quest, Banjo Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 coming out. Hmmm....kiddie games?? Nawwww.... And even though many believe this, Perfect Dark WILL NOT be the N64's knight in shining armor. It might get a ton of sales, but it will definitely NOT "revive" the N64 as everyone says it will. My prediction is that the N64 will be on its deathbed by the end of 2000. And not even a bounty hunter named Samus Aran will be able to save it from certain doom...... Thanks for your time and keep making the best N64 site on the net!! Editor's Disclaimer:This was actually a letter sent to IGN64.
