News Story:Violence in VideoGames

By:ZeroTolerance

Sometimes a writer gets a block and can not think of anything to speak about for months at a time. With the sudden increase in violence amongst teenagers these days it was indefinite that videogames would be one of the targets for the blame. As a videogame journalist I have to voice my opinion about this topic and will do so now. First off I can't see why videogames are being targeted for violence. I can still remember the days of blowing away demons and imps on Doom back in my day. It was a form of release for my pre-adolescent stress.

If you think Doom can train children to be violent then you obviously havent played the game at all. I mean come on, first off the gun aims for you, there is no strategy in aiming in that game. You just look at a target, fire and BLAM you hit it. No brainer there, but of course since your character used a shotgun it was considered violent oooohhh..! Now dont let me get too far off the subject with memories of Doom. I must keep on track or else my mind will wonder too much.

With the sudden increase in violence I cant help but wonder why this is all starting now. I mean when I was a young lad and sat in front of my comp playing games just for the blood and gore and look at me today, I am happy and successful (errr maybe yeah heehee). But the point is I am not out wasting my classmates or co-workers with a sub-machine gun for shits and giggles. The main reason I am not is because my parents raised me right and actually paid attention to what I was doing.

The only place I can see to lay blame here is on the parents. If Quake or Mortal Kombat is teaching our kids there is something wrong here. I say wake up parents and smell the coffee. Your kids need to be loved and given attention. If you think things dont influence them you are sorely mistaken.

I have been a rabid gamer ever since a controller could fit into my tiny hands and have had fun doing it my whole life. I can not see where videogames or movies would drive someone to shoot thirteen or fourteen of their closest friends. It is just not comprehendable, I mean if I sit and think of all the things that could drive me to murder someone, the first thing on my mind is definitely not Sub-Zero ripping off someone's head. If there is one thing videogames has taught me it is how to have fun in a non-existenet world.

The world is a great place to live in. Go out and enjoy it, read a book, watch a movie, or just lay back with a cool drink and relax sometimes. Don't expect movies, games and music to be teachers for your kids because it just doesn't work that way. Parents really need to realize that sometimes all a child needs is to be told he/she is loved. Trust me it means the world to them. Try it sometime and see for yourselves.

There isnt really much else I can say but try to remember what I have discussed. I cant stand by and watch america's parents blame entertainment for today's violence. Get a clue and take care of your kids, its the best policy. As for me I am off to enjoy life, this is ZT sayin..peace!
